The 26th of January public holiday marked the 10th anniversary of one of the nation's most prominent Indigenous annual festivals, which celebrates music, performance, art and speakers. About 15,000 people attended Yabun Festival at Victoria Park in Sydney, with performances from Indigenous musicians Dan Sultan, Christine Anu and a stand-out set from Jessica Mauboy marking the occasion. Aboriginal media group Gadigal Information Services organises the event every year, and spokesperson Pearl Daven says the world-class entertainment along with good weather and a lively crowd made it an enjoyable day. "We saw a number of local musicians from the Sydney area but we also had headline act, Dan Sultan, who was absolutely amazing. "But I think the real star of the show was Jessica Mauboy because her performing power said it all. "The crowd was in a great mood and she really pulled off a professional performance." |
