'Black Gold' presents the Arthur Beetson Tribute Show

Black Gold’, the national Indigenous radio sports program produced by Koori Radio (Sydney) and 3KnD (Melbourne), will present a special live 3-hour tribute show for Indigenous rugby league legend, Uncle Arthur Beetson OAM.

You can tune in on Monday, the 12thth December, 2011 from 6pm-9pm AEDT (daylight savings time – NSW and Vic) or 5pm-8pm AEST (non-daylight savings time - QLD) for the live broadcast over the National Indigenous Radio Service.

We will be celebrating the life and times of the first ever Indigenous captain of a national sports team, who won two premierships as captain of Eastern Suburbs, and was one of seven Rugby League Immortals.  He also skippered the Queensland State of Origin side in the inaugural series in 1980.  He passed last week at the age of 66.

The show will include tributes and interviews from lots of special guests, including Arthur’s son Mark Beetson, Federal Sports Minister Mark Arbib, NRL CEO David Gallop, Biographer Ian Heads, Queensland legends Mal Meninga, Chris Close, Gene Miles, Tony Currie, Johnathon Thurston, Preston Campbell, Scott Prince, Wendell Sailor, NSW legends Tommy Raudonikis and Laurie Daley and manager Justin Karcher.

Australia is mourning his loss and tributes have flooded in, with those close to him saying his legacy as a rugby league great and role model for the Indigenous community will live on.

Queensland State of Origin great Gene Miles says he was shattered to hear the news of the passing of  big 'Artie'.

Miles was due to meet Beetson on the day he passed at a Gold Coast theme park when he heard the news.

They were to hold a barbeque as part of the celebrations of a program - Achieving Results Through Indigenous Education (ARTIE) – where Beetson helped to give 400 Indigenous children better education outcomes.

Another Queensland State of Origin great and current Queensland origin coach Mal Meninga says the passing of rugby league great Beetson is a tragedy.

Meninga says he held Beetson "dear to his heart" and was very influential for his growth as a person.

He says Beetson’s work both on and off the field was worthy of admiration.

Brad Cooke, who hosts NITV’s 'Barefoot Rugby League Show' and will co-host the ‘Black Gold’ broadcast, pays his respects to the great man.  Click here to watch.
