The mission of the National Indigenous Radio Service is “To provide an effective national voice for all Indigenous people and to bring a better understanding of Indigenous culture to Australian society”NIRS supports Article 16 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which states: Indigenous people have the right to establish their own media in their own languages and to have access to all forms of non-Indigenous media without discrimination. The NIRS acknowledges the traditional owners and elders of Brisbane where the Service is based: the Jagera, Yagera and Turrbul peoples.
